How To: Get a Luscious, Well-Maintained Beard with Proraso

Jan 24. 2023 by Shaver Shop Team

Contrary to popular belief, beards require some maintenance; they’re certainly not “set and forget”. To keep your beard healthy, it needs oil to nourish the hair to keep it alive. The oil is drawn from the skin on your face, but this is not enough to keep the hair healthy and can also dry out the skin underneath, causing itchy, flaky "beardruff." But fear not, because Proraso has a range of beard care products that are here to save the day.

Proraso, an Italian wet-shave brand founded in 1908, offers a range of beard care products that can help. Known for professional-quality products that are dermatologist-tested and rich in natural vegetable extracts, Proraso is a favourite of many barbers for shop use and those wanting a premium experience at home.

So, What Do I Need In My Routine?

Keep it Clean with Beard Wash
First, you’ll want to start with a beard wash. Dedicated beard washes should be used rather than head shampoo, as the different pH levels on the face and head have different needs. This means that the use of head shampoo on the face can severely dry out the skin and cause irritation. Proraso’s beard washes are gentle on the skin yet effective at giving a deep cleanse underneath the hair and throughout the beard.

How To Use: Massage a pump of wash through the beard every few days to remove dirt, debris, and odours.

As for beard oils and beard balms, you can use oil for longer beards and balms for shorter beards, or both together!

Keep it Soft with Beard Oil
Just like the hair on your head, your beard gets split ends. Using beard oil daily can help to replenish the moisture back into the hair to reduce breakage, therefore ensuring that the beard can grow to the length you’d like rather than getting stuck at a certain length. Proraso’s beard oils have sunflower, walnut, avocado and macadamia oils to add optimal shine while conditioning and moisturising the hair.

How To Use: Massage 4-8 drops of oil into the beard, starting at the ends (where most of the product should be concentrated) and working back up towards the chin and neck.

Pro tip: Use beard oil and a beard comb or brush to comb through the oil before trimming. Doing so will help align the hairs to get a more even trim and avoid any pesky hairs sticking out at odd angles!

Take Care of the Skin with Beard Balm
For shorter beards, beard balm is best. Proraso’s beard balm is a hydrating yet lightweight liquid balm that targets both the skin and hair to avoid dry skin and itchiness. It has been specially formulated to help ease the discomfort of beard itch in the early stages of growing a beard and can help provide relief throughout the life of your beard.

How To Use: Simply massage a small amount (about the size of a 10-cent coin) into the hair and skin underneath your beard.
