How To: Choose Between The VS Sassoon Crew Cut & Crew Cut Elite

Oct 22. 2020 by Shaver Shop Team

The VS Sassoon Crew Cut has been a long-standing best-seller in the haircutting space for many years at Shaver Shop. With an overall rating of 4.7 stars and over 580 reviews, there’s no doubt this DIY tool has proven to be a winner. Now, VS Sassoon have introduced the Crew Cut Elite – the ultimate self-cut clipper which takes it up a notch! At a glance, you might be thinking, what’s the real difference? To help choose between them, here are some similarities and differences.

Cutting lengths

Both the Crew Cut and Crew Cut Elite are perfect for anyone who is looking for an all over short look or crew cut finish. Both models have four cutting lengths – 3mm to 13mm which is grades #1 - #4. The one and only key difference is the Elite’s advanced lock-in comb guide provides even more precise cutting results for the best finish possible. If you want to maintain length, you may want to opt for a different clipper which has additional cutting lengths to suit your personal style.

Motor & Blade quality

With rotary cutting action, both models cut hair in any direction and feature a DC high performance motor that delivers 50% more power than standard magnetic motor clippers. The original Crew Cut features Japanese stainless steel self-sharpening blades that are hard wearing and engineered for precise hair cutting, whereas Elite’s blades are titanium coated Japanese stainless steel blades which are ultra-hard wearing. In short, both are pretty darn sharp but the Elite is that little bit more durable.

Ergonomic design

The physical design is obviously different in the handle and Elite’s chrome finish, but the way it works is exactly the same. The original Crew Cut easily fits in the palm of your hand whilst you rotate it around you head. The Elite’s trimmer is integrated into the clipper and acts as a user-friendly handle. Both are extremely easy-to-use, so this feature will come down to personal preference.

Run time

The original Crew Cut has a 60 minutes run time and the Elite has an improved 90 minutes run time. Both have a lithium battery so you can use the tool cordless with assured power to cut through hair! With an extra 30 minutes of run time, the Elite offers the convenience of less charging time, which is always a win.

Trimmer

Each of their bonus trimmers are the crucial last haircutting step to take your DIY cut to a professional finish. The main differences between them include battery and comb guides. The original Crew Cut trimmer is battery operated. The Elite’s integrated trimmer means all you need to do is switch the clipper head for the trimmer head and you get a rechargeable lithium battery powered trimmer with longer lasting performance. The finishing trimmer includes three jawline comb guides (2.5mm, 3.5mm and 4.5mm) to shape your short beard, stubble or side burns in comparison to the original which has one 5 position comb guide.

Storage case & Inclusions

If a carry case is important to you for travel or storage, the Elite includes a hard case that holds the clipper, trimmer and accessories in one convenient and easy to store location vs the original Crew Cut which includes a pouch. In addition to this, both models come with barber scissors, barber comb, oil and a cleaning brush.

Exclusive to Shaver Shop, both models are incredibly great value and will easily become your go-to tool for years to come. Before making your decision, we suggest you think about some of these key questions:

  • How would you prefer to use the product?
  • Is a trimmer important to you and how often will you use it?
  • How often will you use it – will the extra run time benefit you?

The answers to these questions should give you a good indication on which model is perfect for you. To view the Crew Cut range and read more, click here.
